We Are Free podcast Episode 026 is about parenting with confidence, even when you don’t feel cut out for it.
Becky Keife is the Community Manager for DaySpring’s (in)courage, a widely followed online community where authentic and brave women connect deeply with God and others. She is also a popular speaker for MOPS groups and other women’s events, and is the author of the book, No Better Mom for the Job: Parenting with Confidence (Even When You Don’t Feel Cut Out for It.)
Becky is a huge fan of Voxer, Sunday naps, and women in the thick of it. She and her husband live near Los Angeles where they enjoy hiking sunny trails with their three spirited sons.
“I had many years where I did not believe that I was the best mom for the job,” Becky shares.
She went from living a life with all females to living a life with three spirited boys. She had a sense of feeling out of control.
“What if I’m not the right mom to shepard that, contain that or keep him safe?”
Eventually, Becky started to identify the things that were continually making her feel like a failure as a mom and created simple boundaries with those things in mind.
“For this season, let’s do this instead.”
“How can I delight in and enjoy my kids? How can I set myself up for success?”
Becky emphasizes that it’s not just about what you’re taking away, but what are you filling that time up with?
“If there’s anything I’ve learned in parenting, it’s that I need God’s wisdom.”
Becky encourages us to replace negative internal dialogue with intentional thanksgiving and surround ourselves with people who instill confidence in how we mother.
