Lisa has been married to her favorite creative, Derren, for 11 years. Together they parent, advocate for, and generally delight in their two-year-old daughter, Grace. Grace was born with a complex congenital heart defect and spent the first 18 months of her life in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Now, she is living life to the fullest at home with great strength and resilience. In addition to parenting a beautiful, medically complex child, Lisa is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies with a particular interest in the communication of emotions, empathy, and social support. Lisa finds joy and places to exhale through pilates, lots of prayer, and taking walks with her family in their sunny San Diego neighborhood.
